Why Torbay Rum is Devon's Best Kept Secret
Share
If you've been looking for a Devon rum that actually means something, you've found it.
Torbay Rum is a Golden Spiced Rum made in Cockington, Torquay — right in the heart of the English Riviera. From the same team behind the internationally award-winning Torbay Gin, we've brought that same obsession with quality and craft to every single bottle of rum we make.
What is Torbay Rum?
Torbay Rum starts with 3-year-old, oak-aged Caribbean rum, blended with soft Devon water and whole spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise, clove and orange. We finish it with the natural sweetness of caramel and pineapple — the result is a rum that's smooth, slightly sweet, and warmly complex in a way that cheaper spiced rums simply aren't.
Torbay Rum brings together the heritage of two coastlines — from the Caribbean to the English Riviera — celebrating warmth, craftsmanship, and a love for the sea.
Devon and rum have a longer history than you think
Centuries ago, Devon's bustling ports played a key role in the trade routes between the Caribbean and England. Ships would arrive loaded with sugar, spices, and rum, bringing exotic new flavours to the South West. Rum was drunk by sailors, traded by merchants, and — it has to be said — smuggled by locals through sea caves along the very coastline we now call home.
Torbay Rum is a continuation of that story. We're not making rum because it's fashionable. We're making it because this place has always had rum running through it.
Made with sustainability at its heart
The label on every bottle of Torbay Rum is made from cane fibre — a more eco-friendly alternative to wood-based paper, created from the byproduct of sugar production. The wax seal is naturally and sustainably sourced. And with every bottle sold, 1% goes directly to Above Water — a Torquay-based charity dedicated to water safety and drowning prevention along our coastline.
Buying a bottle of Torbay Rum supports the place it comes from. That matters to us.
What does it taste like?
Warm caramel and tropical pineapple on the nose. Cinnamon, clove and star anise on the palate. A long, smooth finish with the richness that only comes from three years in oak barrels.
It works beautifully neat over ice. It's exceptional with ginger beer. And it makes a Dark and Stormy that'll ruin you for any other rum.
How to serve Torbay Rum
— Neat over ice. Give it a minute. You'll thank yourself.
— With ginger beer and fresh lime. Cold, spiced, perfect for the bay.
— Dark and Stormy: Torbay Rum, ginger beer, fresh lime juice. The sea view is optional but highly recommended.
